We at WTTRSaturday, along with other sites in our Twilight community, would like to express our sincerest condolences to Tammi and her family. She lost her son today, from a fatal accident. We are trying to raise money for her son's funeral expenses.

Tammi is one of the most caring and sweetest persons I know. She always tries to help out everyone, and now it’s our turn to do the same for her.

Academy and Golden Globe Award winner Melissa Leo will join the cast of the one night only benefit staged reading of celebrated playwright Warren Leight's Tony Award-winning play Side Man, presented by Naked Angels in association with the Guild Hall. As previously announced, the reading will also star acclaimed film, television and theater star Zachary Quinto and original Broadway cast members Jeff Binder, Kevin Geer, Michael Mastro, Angelica Torn, and Tony Award winner Frank Wood. The reading will take place at Guild Hall in East Hampton, NY on Sunday, August 28 at 7pm. Proceeds will go towards Naked Angels' ongoing development of new work.

Winner of the 1999 Tony Award for Best Play, Warren Leight's Side Man is a tender and poignant memory play about a jazz musician struggling to save both his fading career and troubled home life during the dawn of rock 'n roll in America. In addition to winning the 1999 Tony Award for Best Play, Side Man was honored with a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor (Frank Wood), and was nominated for the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and three Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding New Play, Outstanding Direction of a Play (Michael Mayer) and Outstanding Actress in a Play (Edie Falco).

Leo will play Terry, joining the previously announced Zachary Quinto as Clifford and original Broadway cast members Jeff Binder (Al), Kevin Geer (Jonesy), Michael Mastro (Ziggy), Angelica Torn (Patsy), and Frank Wood (Gene).

Reeve Carney Steps Up to the Mic as Jeff Buckley for Jake Scott’s Biopic

We noted back in April that Welcome to the Rileys director Jake Scott was set to direct a biopic of musician Jeff Buckley – a young talent with a haunting, soaring voice who died tragically young while swimming in the Mississippi River. The great challenge, of course, would be finding an actor who could take on the appearance of Buckley as well as the intensity that the role demanded. It looks like that challenge has been accepted.

According to a press release, Reeve Carney will go from playing Peter Parker on Broadway for “Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark” to strapping on an acoustic for what’s still known as the Untitled Jeff Buckley Film.

Buckley had his music featured in several films, including The Messenger, Lord of War, and Vanilla Sky although it seems safe to say that he’s most famous for his soul-shaking version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” As for his story, it’s a compelling one that sees him rise through the music scene as a bit of an eccentric, and the production will be aided by a large amount of information they’ve bought rights to through the singer’s family.

It’s a compelling story, and it will be interesting to see if Carney, whose biggest role to date was in Julie Taymor’s The Tempest, has what it takes to breath life into such a noteworthy artist.

Lynn Hirschberg: Everyone knows you as Bella Swan, the heroine of the Twilight series, whose penultimate installment, Breaking Dawn Part 1, premieres on November 18. What audiences may not know is that you’ve been acting since you were a child. How did you get your start?

Kristen Stewart: It’s weird, because I would be the last person in my school to be in plays, but I was forced to sing a song in a school thing. I sang a dreidl song, which is funny for me. I’ve never celebrated Hanukkah—it wasn’t in my upbringing, but it was one of those deals where everybody has to pick a song or participate somehow in the chorus. It wasn’t the normal dreidl song; I can’t really remember the words, but it was a more serious dreidl song. The dreidl was huge, it was really honored. And that’s how I met my agent, who was in the audience. I was eight. I was nine when I did my first movie, The Safety of Objects.

Did you do any commercials, or did you go straight into films?

I did two commercials, one for Porsche, but I was definitely not the type of child one would cast in a commercial or any TV that you’d typically go out for as a young kid. I wasn’t the type of kid who would be in stuff that kids watch. I wasn’t cutesy.

In 1999 David Fincher cast you as Jodie Foster’s daughter in Panic Room. He likes to do dozens of takes for each scene. Was that difficult, as a child?

I didn’t realize that 80 takes wasn’t normal. But it’s funny: Some of my proudest moments from film sets are in Panic Room. My character had seizures. Just being able to say, I was 10 years old and I broke all the blood vessels in my eye on that take, is cool. It was fun.

You had a tomboy quality, which was unusual.

I have brothers, and that so-called boyish quality was something that I was deathly self-conscious about when I was younger. I was, like, No, I’m a girl. Actually, I’m still embarrassed to say that.

But it sets you apart from other young actresses. And it made you more interesting.

I don’t really know what to say. I just knew I wanted to work. And I did. I was working when I read the script for Twilight. I read the script before I read the book. I actually did the audition before reading the book, which was kind of crazy. Obviously, I tore all four books apart over the course of three years, but initially I had no idea that Twilight was such a big deal.

Did you have a particular interest in vampires? All young girls like vampires.

I fucking love me a vampire [Laughs]. I was 17 when I read Twilight, and at the time it was so perfect for me. The script was about young kids who think they can handle stuff that they just can’t. And they’re going to do it anyway. Because, why not? Just torture yourself. I relate to that. Vampires are a little dangerous—and we girls like to test ourselves.

In Breaking Dawn, Bella and Edward, her beloved vampire, get married. What was the wedding like?

Awesome. This was my first wedding. It was insane. And odd. The wedding dress experience was a huge deal. I tried on one version of the dress, and it was like tweak and tweak and alter and tweak and change, and then it’s done. BFD dress. Huge deal.

How was the actual wedding?

It was major. The last Twilight book is filled with BFDs, things that people have been waiting for for so long. For me, it was ridiculously dramatic: I get married, give birth, the baby has an incredibly accelerated growth rate we’re all very concerned about, and I say goodbye to my dad for the last time ever. It was all big—I could never go, Whew, I’m losing this character.

Did you finally say goodbye to Bella in some meaningful way? You’ve been living with her for a long time.

I’d been anticipating that end-of-Bella moment. I was going, Oh, my God—I wonder how I’m going to feel. And the last scene of the shoot was at the wedding. Every single character was there on set. At the end of that day, I was kind of whacked. And so I never really had that moment then. Instead, it happened later. We needed to film one more sort of honeymoon scene and we went to the Virgin Islands. After that scene, my true final scene, I felt like I could shoot up into the night sky and every pore of my body would shoot light. I felt lighter than I’ve ever felt in my life.

Twilight was your college, and you graduated, in a way: You became Bella Swan at 17, and now you’re 21.

Yeah—and that time has been sort of nuts for me. In film, I have chronicled every stage of my life since I was nine. And it’s more intense now, obviously, because I’m not in control of it anymore.

You’re not in charge of your life?

No. Not really. Not if I want to think solely about what I really like to do. It’s a funny thing: You want so badly for people to see what you do—you’re proud of it—and I like the effect that movies have on people. But the attention can also make me uncomfortable. In certain situations, people say to me, “C’mon, what’s wrong with you?” I apologize. I love what I’m doing, but I’m a little uncomfortable.

Do you like watching yourself?

It’s not like I sit around watching my movies again and again, but I’ve never quite believed actors when they say they don’t watch themselves. I hear them going around the block to make excuses for why they don’t watch their work. It’s bullshit. Sorry, guys—I know you watch your stuff.

It must be interesting to watch your younger self in movies. Very few people have such an extensive visual record of themselves at so many ages.

I get embarrassed. It’s weird, too: I’m 10 years old in Panic Room, and that’s a version of myself that’s pretty far away, but it doesn’t feel that far away to me. Occasionally my dad will flip the TV on, and it’s cool to look at some movie that I’m in for one second. And then, “Dude, off. Now. Like, cut it out.”

Stewart suits up for battle in 'Snow White'

Kristen Stewart dons armor and wields a huge sword and shield for her next movie. Rest assured, it will not be your mother and father's Snow White.

Stewart joined other cast and crew Saturday at the Comic-Con fan convention for a preview of next year's "Snow White and the Huntsman," an action-packed twist on the fairy tale.

The "Twilight" star told a Comic-Con crowd that doing a sweet, traditional Snow White was not something "I was jumping at." What attracted her was that this Snow White was a bold leader with her feet firmly on the ground.

"Also, I get to have a sword and stuff," Stewart said. "Really cool weapons."

The movie is due out next June and is one of two "Snow White" movies Hollywood has coming. The other, due out next March, features Julia Roberts as the evil queen.

The cast of Stewart's "Snow White" includes Charlize Theron as the wicked queen, Chris Hemsworthas a rugged huntsman and Sam Claflin as a prince.

The movie starts shooting in a few weeks. Director Rupert Sanders showed off photos of the stars in costume, among them Stewart in her fighting outfit and Theron in a sleek black gown with savagely high and sharp collars.

How evil is Theron's queen?

"She's a serial killer," Theron said. "I'm pretty much preparing to play a serial killer."

'Snow White And The Huntsman' to Be a Trilogy!!

Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart, may be the first movie in a trilogy.

According to the film’s producer, there are plans to continue the folk tale adaptation in sequels.

“[Huntsman] is meant to be the first in a series of films. This story will end, but there will be questions remaining for these three characters,” Joe Roth tells EW.

Stewart stars as Snow White in the project, with Chris Hemsworth as the other title character and Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen.

It opens in June 2012.

Pairing up for a rare red carpet outing, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner were side-by-side at the 2011 Los Angeles Film Festival on Tuesday night (June 21).

The "Twilight" co-stars both wore big smiles on their faces as they meandered about the Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE venue for the nighttime screening of "A Better Life".

As for the appearance, Kristen and Taylor were on-hand to support the director of "A Better Life," Chris Weitz, who also directed the "New Moon" installment of their ulta-popular "Twilight" franchise.

As for "A Better Life," the drama is due out on June 24 while telling the story of "a gardener in East L.A. who struggles to keep his son away from gangs and immigration agents while trying to give his son the opportunities he never had."

Three More Dwarves Cast in Kristen Stewart's 'Snow White'

Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins and Toby Jones join the recently-announced Ian McShane as four of the seven dwarfs in Universal’s “Snow White and the Huntsman”. Eddie Marsan (”Sherlock Holmes”) and Steven Graham (“Gangs of New York”) are also in talks to play a couple of the pale heroine’s squat sidekicks.

Heat Vision says the dwarves in the film, a revisionist take on the fairy tale that stars Kristen Stewart in the title role, Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman and Charlize Theron as the evil Queen, won’t be named Grumpy, Sleepy, Dopey– and so on.

The dwarf names are veering mightily away from the well-known Disney version, with McShane as Caesar, Jones as a timid dwarf named Claudius and Izzard will be Tiberius, described as the biggest and burliest of the crew. Hoskins will play Constantine, a blind dwarf.

Ian McShane Is First Dwarf Cast in Universal's 'Snow White'

McShane will play Caesar, the leader of the dwarfs, opposite Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth.

Heigh-ho, heigh-ho, it’s off to Snow White and Huntsman that Ian McShane will go.

The actor, currently seen on screen as Blackbeard in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, has signed to play one of the dwarfs in Universal’s Snow White adventure movie.

The project, being directed by Rupert Sanders, is a revisionist take on the fairy tale and features Snow White (Kristen Stewart) as a princess who escapes her evil stepmother (Charlize Theron) with the help of a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) who was to have killed her but now trains the princess to survive and fight back.

The movie is on track for an August production start. Universal will release the film in theaters June 1, 2012.

McShane will play Caesar, the leader of the dwarfs. Universal is in the process of casting the rest of his crew. With Universal and Relativity Media racing separate Snow White projects into theaters next year (Relativity's untitled project also is ramping up production and is currently set to hit theaters in March), there could be serious competition to find strong character actors to fill the roles.

A lot of Kristen Stewart's co-stars have gushed about what it's like working with the star of the Twilight film franchise, but few have been more enthusiastic than Kristen's On the Road castmate Garrett Hedlund.

Hedlund was charmed, it seems, by Kristen's abilities in the kitchen. When asked about Stewart's tortilla soup, Hedlund exclaimed, "It's incredible. Perfect. She's honed it."

Fans have been looking for ways to recreate Stewart's signature recipe, which she graciously shared with Vogue:

Soup

• 2 tbsp. Vegetable oil

• 1 can diced tomatoes

• 1 yellow onion, diced

• 2 jalapeño peppers, chopped

• 2 bell peppers, chopped

• 2 cloves garlic, minced

• 3 tbsp. ground cumin

• 4 cups chicken broth

Condiments

• 2 tsp. paprika

• 2 tsp. garlic salt

• 2 tbsp. chili powder

• 1 avocado, diced

• 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

• Fresh cilantro, chopped

• 2 flour tortillas

• Lime wedges

Directions

• Heat the oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.

• Cook garlic, onion and cumin for a few minutes, until the onions are translucent.

• Add bell peppers, cook until tender — 2 to 4 minutes, stirring frequently.

• Stir in broth, tomatoes and jalapeños.

• Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring periodically.

• Cut tortillas into 2-inch wide strips, grill for a few minutes until toasted.

• Serve the soup in bowls and top with condiments.

Universal's Snow White And The Huntsman Gets Rewrites From Hossein Amini

Universal’s recent decision to bump up the release date of its Snow White and the Huntsman hinted at a confidence in director Rupert Sanders’s vision of a unique fairy tale adventure (and gave the studio a temporary leg up over a rival Snow White film being produced by Relativity). News of Huntsman needing rewrites, however, suggests otherwise.

The studio has hired Hossein Amini to do a rewrite of the film, Deadline reports, which stars Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth in the title roles. Amini, who wrote Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive, will polish the Evan Spiliotopoulos draft of the picture, which is racing to meet a June 1, 2012 release date.

There’s no indication whether this is a total rewrite or just a “tightening up” job, though we’d assume that given the short production window, Amini won’t be moving acts around or drastically shifting perspective on what’s supposed to be a bold interpretation of the classic Snow White fairy tale.

- How did you get the story script WTTR?

Michael Costigan, the President of Scott Free brought the story to us. We met with director Jake Scott, and really loved how honest his vision was for the film.

- Why did you choose Kristen for the role?

Kristen was, and still is one of the few young actresses with enough talent to play that role with complete believability. Even though I expected a certain level of performance, I was still surprised at how truly talented she was.

-How was working with her?

Working with Kristen was an enormous pleasure. I also learned a lot from watching her process. You can't just step on set unprepared and give those types of performances. She was immersed in the character and it showed. Each take was better than the last.

- What do you think about Kristen has stated publicly that she wanted to help (institutions) girls who live in the same situation as Mallory lived?

I believe that once you bring a character like Mallory to life, you are affected for a long time. If you give something your absolute everything, it takes a little something away from you in the process. I completely understand why she would want to help anyone in the same situation afterwards. I believe we all left a little part of our souls in New Orleans after we finished the film.

- You also want to help them?

Yes, I have not only donated to teens in crisis, but to the rebuilding of New Orleans. It is an important cause.

- Prefer her performance as Joan Jett in the Runaways or as Mallory in WTTR?

That isn't a fair question because I obviously have a huge favorite spot in my heart for Mallory. I do however think she nailed Joan Jett in The Runaways.

- What was the most tense moment of the entire production of the film?

For me personally it was the breakdown scene at the motel when Doug comes to get Mallory after she was robbed. Watching her do take after take and then hearing her in my headphones between takes really got to me emotionally. A scene like that takes so much from an actor, and the parental instinct in me wanted to just comfort her and let her know everything was going to be alright.

- What do you think about Kristen as Snow White? Think she'll be a tough and Snow White will give a kick in the ass Wicked Queen?

I think they made a brilliant choice with casting her as Snow White. Kristen is an incredibly complex creature, she is a flawless beauty on the outside and a deep and wise spirit on the inside. She is going to give the conventional fairy tale a depth that will make it so much more alluring to modern audiences.

- Many fans of Kristen follow you on twitter and I'm sure their fans are too. I would like to leave a comment especially for them?

Amidst all the well-deserved hubbub surrounding Blue Valentine last year, another long-gestating, emotionally excoriating indie drama got lost. Namely, Welcome to the Rileys. The two films almost work as companion pieces. Instead of chronicling the collapse of a marriage, as Blue Valentine does, Welcome to the Rileys depicts the rebirth of one – arguably the more difficult task to pull off. Directed by Jake Scott from Ken Hixon’s script, James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo play a couple whose marriage has dissolved in all but legal terms following the death of their daughter. Lois, the wife, has completely shut down, becoming a near catatonic shut-in. Doug, her husband, lives a life of quiet desperation, finding some limited solace in a perfunctory affair while keeping their life going. On a business trip to New Orleans, he encounters a teenage stripper named Allison, played by Kristen Stewart, who reminds him of his daughter. We watch as he drops everything – his business, his home, even his wife – to care for her. No, not in that way. Not even in the way you’d expect.

I won’t spoil the rest of the plot. But I will say that the film functions as a parable of grace, par excellence. Yes, it delves into some truly dark corners of human experience – its frankness about the life of a prostitute is meant to be unnerving [fair warning], but like the “gratuitous” sex in Blue Valentine, there’s nothing glorifying going on here. Instead, the realism underlines the gravity of the situation, that this is love detached from any injunction to respond or change, regardless of how destructive the behavior in question may be, or how fervently the object, Allison, may beg for something more conditional (that she can understand/reject). This is love directed at a bonafide sinner, and an unrepentant one at that. We’re not talking about something that targets the obscured good in a person; we’re talking about something that isn’t bound by moral considerations, a love that seeks out but doesn’t assert itself by trying to fix anything. A love that, instead, just loves. Grace in other words.

Make no mistake, Welcome to the Rileys will rub your inner Pharisee the wrong way. Is Doug enabling/rewarding sin?! Isn’t he implicating himself? What about the first use of the law?! Or the obvious psychological benefit he’s deriving? Red herrings, all of them, the same sanitizing filters that prevent us from absorbing the radicality of the faith we confess. You can understand why the film took so long to come together.

These being recognizable men and women, and not divine figures, the situation eventually gets muddied. The Law enters the picture, however well-intentioned, and boy does it backfire! But the ‘deeper magic’ carries the day, and the ending rings true. The expert performances, especially by Gandolfini, certainly help. Even Kristen Stewart rises to the occasion.

Welcome to the Rileys is not for everyone. The pacing is deliberately slow, the humor fairly thin, the subject matter gritty and the mood pretty unrelenting. It is beautiful but it is not entertainment. If it were, it probably wouldn’t be doing its themes justice, grace being R-rated and all. As a portrait, however, of how lives and marriages are saved, of how real healing occurs, of the dynamics at the very heart of the Gospel (that is, Christ himself!), Welcome to the Rileys is very welcome indeed.

The first tagline for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 has been unveiled by the new official website for the film, BreakingDawn-TheMovie.com!

It reads, “Forever is only the beginning.”

As with the first official teaser poster for the film, the phrase is vague but also quite appropriate for the storyline.

Do you like it? I really do.

The taglines we've seen for the prior films are as follows:

Twilight - "When you can live forever what do you live for?"
New Moon - "What do you do when the one thing you live for leaves you?"
Eclipse - "It all begins with a choice."

The Breaking Dawn tagline is hands-down the best one so far. Twilight's was good because it hinted at Edward's circumstances in the story; New Moon's was probably very difficult to write because of the nature of the story, so I can appreciate it; and Eclipse's was centered on the love triangle aspect of the story. They were all befitting and nice, but I think Breaking Dawn's sends more of a message and opens up a few more expectations from those "in the know" about the book's events (which, who isn't at this point?).

Question: Do you think the actors who have played two of the most well known TV and movie characters in the last 10 years (Tony Soprano and Bella Swan) can be seen as anything else? I say yes - Welcome to the Rileys proves that.

I saw a clip from Welcome to the Rileys when it was getting ready to debut. The clip didn't show much and I couldn't understand who these two characters were to each other. However, I rented it to see what the story was about. Now, you know I am not going to spoil it for you but rest assured the relationship portrayed in this film was different than most I have seen between an older man and young female - and worth watching.

Welcome to the Rileys takes a subject matter that many families have thrust upon them and shows the aftermath through a profound and realistic view point. Life is messy, cruel and can kick you in the stomach but many films like to make sure you leave satisfied in the end with everyone smiling and fixed. This film doesn't try to solve all the answers and it doesn't clean it all up either. How refreshing.

James Gandolfini plays a tender but broken man who is stuck in his marriage and life. He took on this role with an authenticity that I have never seen him try before. His portrayal brought tears to my eyes when his character decided to release the pause button from his dilemma. Kristen Stewart grabbed her portrayal with a vulnerability tied in with an inner strength only real survivors seem to possess. There is no resemblance to her past roles in this movie.

However, Melissa Leo, who was recognized at the Academy Awards for her outstanding performance in The Fighter this year, probably helped both the other actors reach the story's true potential. She, too, showed a real character and the process one goes through if they allow the tragedies of life to consume them.

This is not a fast-paced movie and it won't give you all the answers, but I thoroughly enjoyed the story. I recommend Welcome to the Rileys, even it is just to show everyone that iconic characters don't need to pigeonhole an actor.

My favorite thing: The giggle I had when I wasn't expecting any light-hearted parts in this movie.

My least favorite thing: Realizing the basis of the story is probably more prevalent than I would like to consider.

Did the previews show too much? I actually never saw a preview - just the same clip of the scene outside a laundromat.

James Gandolfini: A
It’s nice, albeit bizarre, to see James (A) sans Jersey/New York accent and (B) as a good guy! His accent was a little odd, a little Southern-ish?, though he and his wife lived in Indianapolis. Whatever the case, he was brilliant and above all, believable. He had the most layers to his character and executed them well.

Kristen Stewart: A
I’m surprisingly finding myself more and more a fan of Kristen Stewart. I won’t even touch on the landmine topic of Twilight, and everyone in Adventureland was blase, bored and irritating (as was the movie overall). I found her the best actress of The Runaways (though props to Dakota Fanning, whom I’ve loved since I Am Sam) and upon viewing Welcome to the Rileys, I know that The Runaways was not just a fluke. She’s an introverted kind of actress, one who seems to naturally internalize and mesh with her characters to give deeply affective performance.

Melissa Leo: B
Her character was a little messy, but that fault lies with the writer, not the actress doing her job. She did her job, and that’s all I can say, really. Anyone decent could have played this role, honestly.

The Overall Story:

I like the overall story greatly. It’s poignant without being sappy (well, there were a few moments that got a little saccharine, but they were few and brief). Elements of surprise and predictability were both present, but nothing that overwhelmed or disappointed me. There are many parents who, after the death of their child, seek out to help other children in need. This movie showed an unconventional, roundabout way of doing so, and it was a good watch.

The Ending:

I’m satisfied with the ending. While in my heart of hearts, I am a sucker for happy endings and would have loved if Alison gave up her job and let the Riley’s adopt her, I know that this would not have been realistic (or true to the indie movie book of rules). However, I would have been extremely dissatisfied had the film gone in the complete opposite with Alison winding up dead, or some other melodrama (the ending of Foxes, anyone?). No, the ending was a realistic medium of Alison moving on from New Orleans, more than likely still in the same line of work, but still driven to keep in contact with Doug, who has learned to let her go.

Director Jake Scott Signs On For Feature Biopic Of Singer Jeff Buckley

Welcome To The Rileys helmer Jake Scott has been set to direct an untitled film about Jeff Buckley, the rising star musician who died tragically at age 30 in 1997. Scott will direct a script by Ryan Jaffe (The Rocker). Michelle Sy and Orian Williams are producing, and Buckley's mother Mary Guibert will be exec producer.

Buckley, son of the famed but troubled folk musician Tim Buckley, became an influence on musicians from Kurt Cobain to Coldplay. He shunned the spotlight, though, preferring to play small clubs and who for a long time played as a session guitarist to make a living. He recorded one hit album, Grace, and was on his way to doing another when he jumped into Tennessee's Wolf River, fully clothed, for a spontaneous swim. He got caught in the wake of a passing boat and drowned.

Melissa Leo, who picked up an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress last month for her role in The Fighter, was at the New York’s Union Square Best Buy for a launch event for HBO’s Treme: The Complete First Season the other day and Disc Dish was able to have a few minutes with her in a back room (okay, don’t get any ideas!). We only had a few minutes before she had to run off and join her Treme co-stars Wendell Pierce and Rob Brown to sign a bunch of Blu-ray and DVD copies for a healthy throng of fans. But, in my short time with Leo, I found her to be exuberant, sharp and funny — and remarkably proud and thankful that she makes her living as an actor. Here’s how our conversation went…

Disc Dish: At the Oscars, you wrapped up your speech by thanking the Academy because “it’s about selling motion pictures and respecting the work!”

Melissa Leo: It’s all about the advertising!

DD: And having the patience to appear at store signings, to talk about it over and over and still be able to smile as reporters ask you the same questions a hundred times in a day?

ML: Well, every reporter asks their question in a different way, even if it’s on the same specific subject. Being responsive to that, I usually don’t come prepared, which may be unfortunate for me. So, as with acting, when the same question is asked, I pretend that it’s the first time.

DD: That said, do you enjoy this part of the process? The “selling” of the work?

ML: I’m a very lucky girl, because all the press I’ve ever done has been for work that I’ve been very proud of. And a lot of it, very hard won work. So the notion of doing what I’m doing now, which is about getting the work seen and shared, it’s important. It’s lucky that I have a chance to be sitting here and talking about it with you. The project could be sitting in a can with nobody seeing it. But it’s available now and you’re writing about it, and when you write about it, you get another half-dozen people watching it. And you get another half-dozen people watching Treme, then you’re gonna get another 50 people watching Treme. Word of mouth makes the difference.

DD: How long were you in New Orleans for the shooting of the first season of Treme?

ML: I was down there for a couple of months prior to Treme, shooting Welcome to the Rileys and then back there for Treme from November to May.

DD: And what was native New Yorker Melissa Leo’s experience shooting in post-Katrina New Orleans?

ML: Finding out what the job was all about was a privilege, and that the job was going to take me to New Orleans was thrilling. And, more so, that it was going to be a requirement that I learn about New Orleans beneath its surface as more than just a tourist. Learning about New Orleans’ inner workings, its pros and cons and its history was so exciting. It is, by my assessment, the most unique city we have in this country.

DD: In addition to being one of the stars of Treme, you’ll also have a featured role in the HBO mini-series Mildred Pierce. Tell me about your experience working for HBO on such high-profile projects.

ML: Well, you don’t make a lot of money working for HBO. If you get a good job like mine, you make a pretty good steady paycheck. And that’s a delight to me — I think the industry has gotten itself out of its own bounds and the cap that has always been there. A lot of people say that HBO is cheap, but there’s something kind of righteous in it. They’re actually, in their cheap way, producing quality projects. And if there were more quality projects and more of us working, that would be a world I’d want to live in. So, I’m very proud to be working for HBO.

Rumors have been swirling about Melissa Leo's project which was touted as being her next after her Oscar win for The Fighter. Unfortunately, during a video Chat with future co-star Jackson Rathbone (Girlfriend, The Twilight Saga), I was able to confirm the up-coming TRUCKSTOP (which is listed as in production), finances are an on-going issue for the film, which has been on hold since last year.

According to IMDB TRUCKSTOP, directed by Rotimi Rainwater and co-star fellow Oscar Nominee Jennifer Lawrence (Wintersbone, X-men: First Class) and Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) "is the story of Charles, a young man with cerebral palsy who works at truck stop along the New Jersey shore taking care of his father who is dying of AIDS. While at the truck stop, he befriends Vicki a troubled prostitute. Through their friendship, they find the strength that each needs to confront their obstacles."

Melissa Leo to star in 'Circus'

James Marsden (X-Men), Michael C. Hall ("Dexter") and Melissa Leo (The Fighter) are attached to star in The Dead Circus, a drama that builds a fictitious storyline around the mysterious death of "I Fought The Law" singer Bobby Fuller.

Fuller's song became a hit in 1966 when he was just 23, but he his battered body was found a week after with gasoline poured down his throat. Still, his death was ruled a suicide.

James Marsden will play Charles Manson, while Melissa Leo will play a Manson Family matriarch who reveals to a grieving screenwriter that the secret behind Fuller's murder might be found in 16mm snuff films buried in Death Valley.

Hall will play Fuller's corrupt, wheelchair-bound manager. First-time director Adam Davenport co-wrote the script with John Kaye, based on Kaye's novel. Please, tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this sounds amazing.

Melissa Leo: The Fighter Talks About Treme And Her Cast

Melissa Leo has got what it takes. She is working her way around pretty well, managing her situations deftly, and, as she goes about doing all that, it reflects in her on-screen characters.

Recently, she was heard talking about her role in Treme. The star of ‘Homicide: Life on the Street’ talked about her character – a single person fighting against all odds. The world she lives in is full of wrongdoers, and she knows it.

But is the attorney, Toni Brenette, ready to stand up against all odds? Well, she is! And Melissa Leo knows that her character (Toni) has to work her way around, adjusting with all the incorrect things.

She definitely has acquired poise, and her determination is intact after she won the Academy Award recently. Her character in The Fighter clearly showed her defining persona. Her cleverness and brilliant timing was extremely noteworthy.

To add-on, she has brought the same standing and qualities while playing Toni Brenette, a lawyer working for the rights of the citizens. She always knew it wasn’t going to be easy, as the character demands perseverance, determination and true grit.

But, Melissa Leo has it all! So, it becomes a bit easy for her to successfully portray the character, even if she modestly suggests that it isn’t. Treme is an exemplary show that is largely benefitted by its lead cast and their brilliant acting.

It’s interesting how Melissa has developed as an actor, although she feels that she is only developing. Sign of a true star!

New Welcome to the Rileys Review!

Here is a tiny little film that barely earned $320,000 in total box-office receipts world-wide and screened only in 11 movie theaters when it was released. It’s one of those films that was tossed straight into the home-video bin.

But my god… what quality, what super writing, directing, and acting are tucked away in this miniscule corner of the movie world! The quality of this adult drama is nothing less than astounding.

First off, let’s praise the world-class acting muscle brought in by James Gandolfini (Doug Riley) of the SOPRANOS fame. That TV-series has seared itself permanently into my brain cells and will live with me as long as I’m around. And the number one reason why I loved that show so much was Gandolfini. The number one reason why I was mesmerized with the RILEYS is again JG. Bless you, sir.

But Melissa Leo as Doug’s depressed wife Lois and Kristen Stewart as a teenage hooker also excel beyond description. Why I haven’t heard the names of these amazing actors before; I have no idea. But I’m sure we’ll hear about them frequently in the future, especially Stewart given the fact that she is still so young and in the early years of her career. May it be a long one. I think she’ll fill in the shoes of Marcia Gay Harden nicely. Stewart is another Natalie Portman or Michelle Williams in the making.

(WARNING: some plot points revealed ahead…)

The story: Doug is a plumbing materials wholesaler in Indianapolis living in a middle-class neighborhood with his wife Lois. Despite the appearances, both are depressed deep down since they’ve lost their 15-year old only daughter in a traffic accident years earlier.

Doug, perhaps also squeezed by a typical middle-age crisis, starts to look around for a diversion, for a way to forget his pain. His wife Lois is house-ridden and clinically depressed 24-7. Thus it does not take long for Doug to get off track during an industry convention down in New Orleans.

Enter Mallory, the Big Easy teenage pole-dancer and prostitute who is just about the same age as Rileys’ deceased daughter. There’s obviously a father-daughter attraction there on Doug’s part while Mallory tries to treat Doug as yet another John off the street. Yet when Doug declares his decision to move in with Mallory while refusing any sex for payment, we are as puzzled as both Mallory and Lois are with Doug’s true intentions.

At times I thought the RILEYS might deteriorate into the overworked formula of MY FAIR LADY (even PRETTY WOMAN): will Doug try to make a lady out of Mallory? Yes and no, but Mallory is no “lady” for sure. She is not even a “woman” yet. She is a foul-mouthed wild beast.

The story takes a sharp turn at this point with Lois’s decision to pack up her suitcase, get into the family Cadillac, and after a few nervous mishaps, hit the road to… New Orleans! Lois has her epiphany and will not leave Doug on his own down in the netherworld of New Orleans.

Act Three of this fascinating story gets layered with all three major characters interacting with each other to redeem themselves and to find salvation in ways that befit them.

The ending is both logical and delicate. Writer Ken Hixon and director Jake Scott (nephew of the great Tony Scott) really love their characters and they treat them with respect, patience, and dignity even when they are down in the pits, smeared with the ugliness of the world.

The RILEYS leaves us emotionally exhausted but yet also strangely charged up for the possibilities ahead. Hope is beating like a drum in the inner chambers of this film.

R-rated and too hard for the kids. But if you’d like to spend meaningful two hours in front of your TV set curled up with your spouse or significant other, RILEYS is not a bad choice at all. As a matter of fact, until you see it, it should be the only choice.

HBO Developing Project for James Gandolfini

HBO is continuing its long relationship with James Gandolfini.

HBO Films has optioned Robert Egan and Kurt Pitzer's book Eating With the Enemy: How I Waged Peace With North Korea From My BBQ Shack in Hackensack with Gandolfini attached to star, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The development deal will see him portray a Hackensack restaurant owner who forged a relationship with the North Korean Mission in Upper Manhattan who went on to play an important role as a liaison in U.S. and North Korean relations.

The former Sopranos star will executive produce via his Attaboy Productions and Tribeca Productions. Mark Armstrong, Nancy Sanders, Jane Rosenthal, Brandon Brito and Megan Lyvers will also exec produce with Pitzer and Kimberly Levin co-producing.

Gandolfini next appears in HBO Films' Cinema Verite, which premieres April 23.

Gandolfini producing HBO's 'Hemmingway and Gellhorn'

HBO has named its supporting cast who will be joining leads Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman in the biopic HEMINGWAY & GELLHORN. The HBO film is executive produced by James Gandolfini and directed by Philip Kaufman from a script by Jerry Stahl and Barbara Turner. It recounts the tumultuous romance and subsequent marriage of literary master Ernest Hemingway (Owen) and up-and-coming war correspondent Martha Gellhorn (Kidman), following them through the Spanish Civil War and beyond.

As reported by Deadline.com, the large cast will include the following actors. David Strathairn (Temple Grandin) will play famous American writer and Hemingway’s friend John Dos Passos. Molly Parker (Deadwood) will play Hemingway’s second wife, Pauline. Parker Posey (Superman Returns) will play his fourth wife, Mary. Rodrigo Santoro (300) will play Zarra, a Spanish Loyalist and friend of Dos Passos. Lars Ulrich (member of Metallica) will play Joris Ivens, the Dutch documentarian of The Spanish Earth. Santiago Cabrera (Heroes) will portray famous war photographer Robert Capa. Saverio Guerra (Lucky You) will play Hemingway’s close friend Sidney Franklin. Peter Coyote (Erin Brockovich) will play Hemingway’s editor Maxwell Perkins. Diane Baker (Marnie) will play Martha’s mother. Tony Shalhoub (Monk, Too Big to Fail) will play Koltsov, a Russian journalist and apparatchik.

Filming for Hemingway & Gellhorn has already begun in San Francisco. It is scheduled to debut in 2012.

Kate Winslet Fires Off Joke Rant At Foul-Mouthed Pal Melissa Leo.

Kate Winslet has fired off a hilarious and foul-mouthed rant aimed at pal Melissa Leo after the actress blamed the Brit for her expletive-laced Oscars acceptance speech on Sunday (27Feb11).

Leo made Academy Awards history when she became the first star to utter the 'F' word onstage at the Oscars, and has since blamed Winslet for the slip-up.

Appearing on Ellen DeGeneres' chat show in America on Tuesday (01Mar11), The Fighter star said, "We did (TV movie) Mildred Pierce... She's (Winslet) delightful and curses like a sailor all the time. She was in my mind. It's Kate's fault."

And the Titanic star has picked up the joke.

In an interview with Zap2It.com, she says, "Everyone dumps all this s**t on me, all the f**king time. She (Leo) is right, though. She is absolutely right. I have got to hand it to her, and she did curse on the stage of the Academy Awards. That's my kind of cool.

"I sent her a text message (that read): 'Is that f**king you, Melissa? You motherf**king cow,' and the b**ch hasn't called me back!"

Leo has publicly apologised for her Oscar night expletive, stating, "It just slipped out. I was a little excited."
